High Energy Materials Society of India (HEMSI) was founded in the year 1983 to provide a forum for interaction among the scientists and researchers working in the field of high energy materials and related technologies in research laboratories of DRDO, DAE, ISRO,academic institutions and industries of the country. HEMSI having made a modest beginning at Pune, now boasts of having five more Chapters at Thiruvanathapuram, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh-Delhi and Jagdalpur in addition to its parent chapter at Pune. HEMSI made its presence felt throughout the country and the world over by arranging 8 National and 7 International seminars and conferences. Deliberations in the conferences always lead to the generation of road map for future work in the field of pyrotechnics, propellants, high explosives and related fields. It is endeavor of the society to bridge the technology gap between the developed countries and India through participation of the international scientists and experts in the said conferences.
In order to spread its wings and to increase the participation of intellectuals from the northern region, Chandigarh-Delhi chapter was inaugurated as the fifth chapter of HEMSI on 24th Jan 2008 followed by Inauguration of sixth chapter at PPJ Jagdalpur in 2009. It has headquarters at TBRL Chandigarh which is one of the important armament cluster laboratories of DRDO, working in the field of explosives and armament technologies. CFEES Delhi is promoting the interests of society at Delhi under the aegis of this chapter.
In the short duration after its inception it has enrolled more than 230 members from different DRDO laboratories, academic institutions and industries. To keep our scientists abreast with the technological advances, this chapter arranges periodic lectures on high energy materials and related fields by renowned scientists and academicians form various institutions.
It has organized two technical meets where lectures were delivered by prominent personalities on various aspects of energetic materials such as synthesis, characterization and applications. This chapter has successfully organized the First National Symposium on Trends in High Explosive Technology (TEXT-2008) in Nov 2008 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of DRDO. In future this chapter promises to penetrate further in the hearts of scientific community to realize the objectives set by HEMSI.
